Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction Workshop in Surabaya

<p>Third city visited by the Holcim Awards were Surabaya. Much enthusiasm and energy was felt throughout the day when all participants eagerly interacting to speaker&rsquo;s presentation and also the discussion afterwards.<br />&nbsp;<br /></p> <p>Surabaya s one-day-workshop was a bit different from 2 previous cities Holcim Awards visited. Just like in Yogyakarta and Bandung, Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono (Professor at the University of Indonesia &amp; Holcim Award Jury Member Regional Asia Pacific) and Lim Yu Sing (Architect &amp; Holcim Awards Indonesia Main Category Winner) presented on &ldquo;What Juries Look For?&rdquo; and the winning project description. But this time, Holcim Indonesia was honored to have Edward Schwarz, Holcim Foundation General Manager, to be part of this much anticipated event. Mr. Schwarz opened the event to over 80 guests of Surabaya s finest construction practitioners including architect, planners, engineer and members of the IAI association Surabaya chapter. &nbsp;His opening was inspiring to the whole Indonesian s practitioners attended the event to be the next winner of Holcim Awards.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><img src="" />&nbsp; &nbsp;<img src="" />&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><img src="" /><br />&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<br />&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br />Another different speaker at Holcim Awards Surabaya was Prima Wijaya, Holcim Awards Indonesia winner from the next generation category. He shared his ideas to the audience on the Garbage Facility and Community Development in Pademangan. His idea also received numerous response from the audience, all interested to find out more in detail about his challenging project.<br />&nbsp;<br />To add more on the discussion of sustainability issue, Surabayas well known architect Jimmy Priatman shared his upcoming project, the Learning Resource Center. Learning Resource Center is a state of the art 16th floor building which consist of training, art, science, language, and also student center. This building will be operated using solar and wind energy which can save up to 50% energy used and reducing 1.6 mio kg of CO2 per year. This project was then discussed &amp; assessed using 5 target issues by the whole participants divided into 5 different groups (Progress, Proficiency, Planet, People, and Prosperity).Before the closing of the workshop, each group presented their assessment and share their proposed ideas for Holcim Awards 3rd cycle.</p> <p><img src="" />&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="" />&nbsp; &nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;<br />Holcim Foundation General Manager, Edward Schwarz expressed his hope for Indonesia Tuesday 21st of December 2010at the end of day &ldquo;I am looking forward to an increased number of high quality entries from Indonesia and hope that we will have at least one winning team from your country.&rdquo;<br />&nbsp;<br />For more information on Holcim Awards and to participate, please access<br /><br /><br /><br /></p>
